2012-13 Panini Contenders Basketball sees the brand’s long-standing focus on autographed rookie cards hit the hardcourt. Hobby boxes come with four total autographs per box, at least three of which are rookie cards. The set also had a massive memorabilia set and a couple of other surprises to keep collectors hunting.
The 2012-13 Panini Contenders Basketball set consists of 200 cards. Half of those are autographed rookie cards. Like all 2012-13 Panini basketball products, rookies come from both the 2011 and 2012 NBA draft classes. Base cards also have three levels of parallels: Silver, Gold and Black.
Besides the abundant rookie autographs, 2012-13 Panini Contenders Basketball has three standalone signature sets. Historic Contenders Autographs centers on the game’s retired legends. Contemporary Contenders is where collectors will find signatures from current stars. Substantial Signatures combine ink with a patch piece from a game-used jersey.
Besides Substantial Signatures, Contenders Materialsis only one other memorabilia set in the release. With a checklist of 100 cards, the set is a big one. Jersey swatches are a little bigger than a lot of other memorabilia sets. A Prime parallel uses premium swatches.
2012-13 Panini Contenders Basketball also has a pair of basic insert sets that standout simply because of their immense rarity. Hall of Fame Contenders cards fall 1:20 cases. Throwback Rookie Tickets are a little easier to find at just 1:13 cases.
Product Configuration: 20 packs per box, 5 cards per pack
